Bedside Toilet Chairs Can Make Life Much Nicer For A Senior Citizen
It might not be a favorite topic around the dinner table but, especially for an elderly person with limited mobility, a bedside toilet chair (aka bedside commode) just makes sense.
In my Mom’s case, when she was around 93, she became a bit more wobbly when walking; I became more concerned about her getting up and using the bathroom down the hall at night.
At first, I got up when I’d hear her moving around, but this meant that I slept very lightly, very very lightly. No deep sleep makes Lori a crappy (had to do that pun, sorry) caregiver. So, I started looking for solutions.
That’s how I wandered across bedside toilet chairs, aka bedside commodes – what I wish is that I had wandered across the plastic liners that go inside toilet chairs thereby making the clean up a snap….
Anyway, that Medline Elements Bedside Toilet chair you see above is a bedside toilet seat on steroids. I particularly like this model as it’s way less institutionalized looking than regular bedside commodes. It’s fully customizable to your patient’s size so will work for those little bitty ladies as well as the tallest men.
The Medline Elements Bedside Commode, albeit among the most expensive of the bedside commodes, is also friendly to full sized men as the elongated seat gives them more room, if you get my drift. The Medline Elements commode is also very stable and safe for people up to 400 lbs. If you’re looking for sturdy, this is the bedside commode you need.
For the liners, you’re best off using Carebags instead of other toilet liners. They seem to fit the best.
Other Bedside Toilets That Are Highly Rated
If you’re not up for springing for the cream of the crop, which is the Medline Elements bedside toilet above, here are some other less expensive yet highly rated bedside toilet chairs for your consideration.

Bedside Toilet Liners
I didn’t even know bedside toilets had liners and, man, I wish I’d known. I cleaned Mom’s bedside commode every morning. I wore long gloves and cleaned it with Clorox Wipes. Liners would have made my life SO much easier! Don’t skimp here – make sure you have plenty of these commode liners on hand.
