A small aquarium would have delighted my elderly Mom as she used to love to watch things grow and move – even a celery end in a bit of water amazed her every day with the top growth. She just liked to watch nature be it birds, celery, or whatever.
I didn’t have one of these little aquariums for her but, I know that if I did, she would have loved to watch the fish swim around. These small aquariums are the perfect size to fit on a bedside table or living room coffee table.
Beware though: please do not give one of these small fish tanks as a gift for an elderly loved one if there is no one to maintain it. These little aquariums need to have their water changed more frequently than larger systems (ones without filters may need a water change twice a week). The last thing you want to do is give your Granny’s caregiver one more thing to do! Also, please note: although some of these demure aquariums show beta fish in them, betas really need at least 4 gallons of water to be healthy and happy. You’re better off with a few generic guppies or goldfish.
