My Introduction To A Lap Buddy
I’ll be the first to admit that I’d never heard of a ‘lap buddy’ before – you see, I was blessed with caring for the most wonderful Mother ever and, thankfully, she didn’t have dementia or Alzheimer’s. But, I have recently taken on part care for a gentleman who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s just 1 year ago so now I know of what I type.
How Does A Lap Buddy Work?
So, what the heck is a lap buddy? A lap buddy is designed to keep those with dementia or Alzheimer’s in their wheelchair. Frequently, those with any type of dementia may forget that they can’t walk and try to get out of their wheelchair. The results? Well, a trip to the ER with a broken bone can be the result – not good.
So, to help keep these folks safe in their chair, a lap buddy is used. It’s usually an inflatable device that hooks to the wheelchair thereby preventing those at risk from standing and falling.
