Q3 Enterprises Twiddle Pup Activity/Comfort AidMore often than not, people with Alzheimer’s or dementia have an issue with their hands – they simply can’t stay still and fidgeting is the norm! The key to getting their hands to calm down is to get them something to do. That’s how I found Activity Centers.
Alzheimer’s or Dementia Activity Centers
Studies have shown that those patients with diminished mental capabilities do better in situations where their hands are engaged in some sort of fidgeting activity.
You can do keep those moving hands busy with art supplies, puzzles or, if the dementia or Alzheimer’s is more advanced, you can buy an activity center (like the one there to the left) designed specifically to keep the hands busy.
Activity centers come in many different types with different items, such as zippers, laces, or buttons.
Those with Alzheimer’s or dementia can be kept busy for hours if you give them one of these types of products designed specifically for these situations.
An activity center may also calm down your senior citizen loved one and relieve anxiety associated with the syndrome. Keeping the hands busy also may prolong the ability of motor skills and help relieve arthritis pain.
Muffs Designed for Alzheimer’s or Dementia Patients
These muffs not only can provide the hands with something to do but, if your mom is like mine was, this muff will also keep the hands warm. Some muffs have beads, ribbons or a squeeze ball inside the muff – others might offer different tactile feels. These activity centers are all washable after taking off the attached pieces.

Alzheimer’s/Dementia Activity Centers For The Lap
Another type of activity center for those with Alzheimer’s or dementia are small blankets that lie across the lap and have different items on them to keep the hands busy – such as buttons, zippers, shoe laces, etc. In my humble opinion, the more different areas to explore on one of these activity aprons or pillows, the better.
