DSS Posey Deluxe Guard Rail Pads 73869 3/4 43″L
My own Mom was bedridden for the last 3 weeks of her life so soft bed rails became a staple in her bedroom, nee my living room.
Hospice nurses had brought in a hospital bed with normal metal bed rails that Mom hated – so did I.
Not only were the bed rails chilly in the February morning but, with Mom’s skin thinning, she’d bruise just from lying against one of the cold, hard bed rails.
And, they weren’t so comfortable to lean against when I was having a conversation with my adorable Mom.
So, I tried using body pillows on either side of Mom instead of keeping the rails up at night. Body pillow were long pillows that I sort of wedged between Mom and the side of the bed to keep her in place. Since there was always someone there with her at night, that worked ok but they soiled easily and were a pain to wash, even when covered with a body pillow case.
Soft Bed Rails To The Rescue
Soft bed rails can be just padding that fits over an existing bed rail or even a fully separate bed rail such as the Regalo Swing Down Bedrail shown below. We bought that DSS Posey Deluxe Guard Rail Pads that you see there above. They worked perfectly for our purposes.
Soft bed rails can easily be cleaned with just a wipe of a cloth. I used Clorox Healthcare Germicidal wipes once a day to keep Mom’s bedrails nice and clean – particularly the ones at the foot of her bed.
Note: A soft bed rail at the foot of the bed can make it much more comfortable when one tends to slouch down in the bed.
