I’ve scratched my head many years in the past to come up with the best Father’s Day present for a dad who has everything so I really wish I’d thought of magazines for men when my dear Dad was alive.
I know Dad would have loved getting a magazine like Reminisce where he could have enjoyed reading about the good old days. And, my Dad served in WWII so any kind of history magazine would have been an excellent gift for that senior man.
No matter what your father’s passion may be, there is a magazine for him. Giving a magazine as a Father’s Day present means that, for at least 12 months, he’ll think of you every time one appears in his mailbox or, well, on his Kindle.
Magazines For Men Who Like The Good Old Days
I came along very late in my parent’s lives – my Mom was 42 when she had me. Back then, that was OLD! So, when I found that there were magazines about the good old days (you know the ones – when you folks walked uphill to and fro school), I was in. Mom love to read these magazines; I know Dad would have loved them too if I had only known about them when he was alive.

Magazines for the Auto Enthusiast Dad or Grandfather
I will admit it: I periodically like to look through Auto magazines to see what the newest and most innovative products might be. I especially like to look at the editions that focus on the next rendition of cars – some are quite futuristic. Perhaps one day we’ll get to the hovercraft!

History Magazines
Although my Dad wouldn’t talk with us much about the war, he did like to look through history magazines. I found this relatively interesting as those 4 years he was in the service (1942-1946) were years that he didn’t look back on fondly. AARP would come out with an article though every once in a while that would interest him. All he would tell us was ‘I was there.’ I guess the thoughts were just too painful to speak.

Magazines For Men Who Love Boats
My exquisite boyfriend, John, is quite the boat enthusiast, and, I’m happy to say that I now am also. We spend a lot of time sailing the Chesapeake Bay aboard Namaste, his 26′ MacGregor power sailer. So, when I found these boating magazines, I knew that I had the perfect Father’s Day gift for him – no, he’s not a father but that’s not a reason to not give him a gift if I want!

Hunting Magazines
I am not a fan of hunting as I don’t like the taste of wild game, but I know a few people who do like to hunt.
My Dad used to tell me a story of one time when he decided to try his hand at hunting. We had a house on the Eastern Shore of MD on Kent Island. Back in the 60’s, we had the only house for miles so Dad decided to take a rifle and down a deer.
So, Dad walked a mile or so and sat and sat until a beautiful doe rounded the bend. Dad put his gun up and took aim only to have the deer turn and look directly at him. Once he saw her eyes, he put down the rifle. The only thing he bagged that day was a great story.
Anyway, if your Dad or Grandfather likes to hunt, here’s a few choice magazines for him for Father’s Day.

Men’s Health Magazines
My own Dad died when he was 89 which was a pretty good long life considering he had open heart surgery when he was 68. They gave him 10 years, he lived another 21 all told. Not bad at all.
