Whether your elderly loved one lives alone or in a family home, if he or she is hard of hearing, a smoke alarm with a strobe light is a necessary purchase.
Smoke detectors for the hearing impaired have a bright strobe light that flashes brightly in a different patterns to alert to either smoke/heat or even the presence of carbon monoxide.
Consider placing plenty of these strobe smoke detectors in the areas where your senior friend spends the most time – such as the living room, bedroom, kitchen, or dining room. Also, instead of placing the smoke detectors on the ceiling where they might be harder to see, place them on the walls for easier detection. Placing the smoke detectors on the wall, say, above the TV that your elderly loved one watches, would be a particularly good idea.
Important to note – Smoke detectors for the hearing impaired must be used in conjunction with a regular smoke alarm – that is, they are not smoke detectors in their own right. They are used in addition to a regular smoke detector/carbon monoxide detector and have to be hard-wired to an installed detector. A professional installation is suggested.
Another important note – Since these hearing impaired strobe lights are hard-wired, if the electricity fails, they will not signal with the strobe.
