Games For Low Vision – Bring Some Quality Time Back Into Your Elderly Loved Ones Life
Many of our senior citizen friends suffer from low vision, generally caused either by macular degeneration or cataracts. In my Mom’s case, it was cataracts so there went reading her beloved newspaper unless it was under a magnifying lamp.
Those with low vision might get frustrated at not being able to see scrabble tiles or the numbers on a deck of cards. And, there’s no reason that your Grandmother’s love of Bingo has to be put on the shelf for ever more.
That’s why the games I’ve selected below all are adapted for those with low vision or the blind. So, go ahead and invite the family over for a rousing game of Bingo, Scrabble or Gin Rummy played with low vision cards that have very distinctive numbers and colors.
The selection below is sure to wow your elderly loved one. You can go directly to that section of the page you prefer by clicking a link below or, for your own enjoyment, just scroll down!

Mom is gone now but the memories of those winter nights sitting around a scrabble board remain. Go ahead, build some memories of your own with your favorite senior citizen.

I am searching for a Qwirkle game with more contrast of color for my father with macular degeneration.
Lori Burdoo says
Hi, Shirley. I looked all over the internet for a Qwirkle game for low vision but there is nothing. You might contact the manufacturer and suggest that – you might even get a prototype. It’s a great idea.
Thanks for your comment. Lori

I am looking for a handheld card or poker game for my older aunt who is vision impaired. Need big numbers, bright lights, and large buttons
Lori Burdoo says
Hi, Mitzi. I’m sorry but I can’t find any card games that fulfill your requests. I suggest just getting large cards made for low vision folks.
Paige Garrison says
Hi Lori!
I’m looking for a handheld electronic SOLITAIRE game. My dad has advanced macular degeneration and he is unable to see the MEGA SOLITAIRE game available on Amazon. Is there anything bigger than that?
Thank you!
Lori Burdoo says
Hi, Paige! I’m sorry but I don’t see anything through some pretty extensive searches online for anything bigger THAT is easy to read. Some of them, I had a problem understanding!
What about giving him something like a tablet where he can increase the screen size? Would that possibly work? Hope you find something. Kiss your Dad for me please.

My dear friend lost completely her vision due to diabetes. She sits all day long in front of the tv that her husband controls.
Lori Burdoo says
Oh, Leslie – I am so very sorry for your friend. It sounds like she’s sequestered and controlled – no one should be that way. I hope you can help her find something worthwhile to do although I do enjoy some tv shows such as Planet Earth and other nature shows. She might even like to hear the birds chirping on some youtube channel. I wish you and she peace. Lori

Hi, Deb. The only low vision games I’ve show are those that are actual board or physical games. I’m not at all sure about online games. So sorry.
