One of the toughest jobs any caregiver can take on is caring for someone with Alzheimer’s. I was lucky in that my own darling Mom, Gertie, was mostly mentally clear until she was just a few weeks prior to death at the tender age of 95. Other caregivers I am friends with don’t have it as easy – they’re caring for those with Alzheimer’s.

A frequent problem that is associated with those with Alzheimer’s is keeping those folks occupied – Alzheimer patients tend to be fidgety. It seems though that if their hands are busy, their minds are engaged. I’ve written another post about activity centers for those with Alzheimer’s which includes lap buddies – these are fuzzy animals that have zippers, ropes, and other tactical items that keep an Alzheimer patient’s hands busy. This kind of activity also tends to calm their racing minds.

So, going one further, I started checking into other toys for those with Alzheimer’s. I was surprised to find that there are many ways to keep these forgetful senior citizens happy and contented to be in one spot.

Some of these games are reminiscent of the games we used when we were small children, but, make no mistake – these types of games work wonderfully to keep those with Alzheimer’s busy. These type of games also engage the brain which is always a good thing for a senior citizen friend with Alzheimer’s.

Tangle Games And Hands On Games For Alzheimer Patients

Alzheimer’s patients may have fidgety hands. These tangle games will give those hands something to do as they move. I’ve seen senior citizens play with these things for hours. The links come apart and can be reattached over and over again.

Note: If your elderly loved on tends to put things in his or her mouth, they should be monitored when using one of these tangle therapies as some have small pieces and can be choking hazards.
