Bring The Holiday Spirit To Our Elderly Jewish Friends With Some Beautiful Hanukkah Decorations

The Christmas/Hanukkah season may not be so joyful for some of our elderly loved ones. Long days and longer nights without their loved ones may bring melancholy and depression.

You can easily brighten your elderly loved one’s mood, no matter where they live, with the addition of some simple Hanukkah decorations. Some of these decorations, like window clings, are great for those who might be in a nursing home or rehab. They’re easily peeled off the window after the holiday season is over – just in time for you to replace them with New Year’s Eve window clings!

Some of our Bubie and Zaidies may not have been raised with any kind of decoration for Chanukah so you might tread gently before bringing in a Hanukkah bush. Provided your elderly loved one doesn’t have dietary restrictions, spread some Hanukah gelt around. This little sweet treat is also wonderful to have around when the grandchildren come to visit Bubie and Zaidie.

Hanukkah Decorations Wouldn’t Be Complete Without A Menorah

Menorahs now come in battery or electric mode which is perfect for an elderly loved one who is on oxygen (no open flames allowed) and the traditional type where a candle is physically lit each night.

Battery Or Electric Menorahs

After my own elderly Mom broke her hip, I was in the rehab facility with her for 3 weeks – right over the Chanukah season. Since I was there right beside her, day in and day out, I picked up some festive window clings. The nurses and staff were enamored with these easy holiday decorations.
