I’d never heard of privacy window film until my husband decided to hide the garage view from the dining room of the West Virginia house. Now, instead of looking out onto a bland scene, I see a beautiful jungle scene – in fact, the window film he put up is that same one there to the left.

These beautiful window films not only can camouflage an ugly view, but, they also filter light and reduce glare so grandma can see her Judge Judy show.

Privacy window films are very very easy to put up. There’s no messy glues or anything like that. Instead, all one needs to do is spray the window and the film with soapy water, cut the window film to the correct size, and press it on. No muss, no fuss. It’s as easy to take down (although I don’t know why anyone ever would…), just peel a corner away and pull.

These interesting window films also work on cabinets, doors, or, generally, any non-porous glass surfaces.

Note: if you’re giving a privacy window film gift to an elderly loved one, make sure you’re available to install it. I ruined two in my zest to get the things up. Lesson learned: measure twice, cut once…

First Things First: Tools For Hanging Your Window Films

As mentioned above, you’ll need a spray bottle of soapy water so your film will adhere to the window. Alternatively, people say that the window film application solution makes it easier to hang the window film as the surface remains more slippery than with plain water. I’ve always used just plain water and not had a problem.

You’ll also need a fresh blade box cutter and a straight edge.
