If your favorite senior citizen has aches and pains (and, let’s be honest….who doesn’t?), there’s no reason for them to be hurting when a quick application of a topical pain reliever can bring almost instantaneous relief to tired, aching joints.

Joint pain, like arthritis, can be debilitating, like it was for my own Mom. When her arthritis flared (especially on cold days), a small application of the Deep Blue Rub you see there to the left gave her instant relief.

As an added benefit, the Deep Blue Rub is an especially nice topical pain reliever as it is applied as a cream that has wonderful moisturizing properties. My Mom was always astonished at how soft her skin was where it was applied.

We also kept an entire selection of other topical pain relievers. We had them in her travel bag that went with us everywhere, beside her living room chair, by her bed – you get the idea.

And, we found that, at least for my Mom, alternating a few different topical pain relievers seemed to work best for her. She loved the Deep Blue Rub and the Biofreeze preparations.

So, in this article, I’ll show you a selection of different topical pain relievers along with ways to apply them.

Note: Beware of letting the elderly apply these analgesic solutions themselves as hands must be washed after application, with the exception of the roll on or spray application pain relievers.

The stuff really burns in the eyes (voice of experience here and I wasn’t even elderly – then….).

Roll On Pain Relievers

Roll On applications are a very good option for the elderly as they don’t have to touch the topical analgesic (then have to wash their hands well). Instead, they will just roll on the formula to the area where it is needed.

No muss, no fuss.

Note: Mom’s secondary preferred topical pain reliever was always Biofreeze. I still use it for aching pain after long hikes.

Sprays are also a good application method for a senior citizen although the spray should still be rubbed in which means hand washing….
