My own Mom had every tooth in her head until she was 92 and then all bets were off. Here’s a conversation we had over our coffee one morning:

Me: Mom, smile for me

Mom: (returns beaming smile but, what’s this? Miss a tooth!)

Me: MOM! What happened to your tooth? It’s gone?!

Mom: I have NO idea.

After a quick trip to the dentist, we invested in a good quality electric toothbrush which, thankfully, staved off any further loss of teeth.

It’s not secret that any kind of hygiene becomes more difficult for our senior citizens as they age. But, it’s especially important to keep their dental hygiene up to date as infections can easily enter through infected gums.

Electric toothbrushes make brushing one’s teeth a much easier task with more thorough results. Instead of having to concentrate on moving their hand up and down while brushing with a regular toothbrush, a quick push of a button sends the electronic toothbrush off to work its magic.

We loved the Oral-B Pro that you see there above, especially because it has a timer. Two minutes is what dentists suggest as a minimum time of brushing ones teeth. I can verify that, after using the 2:00 minute timer, my own mouth had never been cleaner!

The Oral-B above also has different modes so one can set it for daily clean, gum care, tongue cleaning, along with three other modes. And, the Oral-B Pro 7000 even has bluetooth so it can give feedback to a cell phone on how the brushing is going! Now, yes, that’s sort of ridiculous for an elderly person, but it sure was great for me!
